Funny thing among many funny things in the newspaper today. Granted, the Malaysian newspapers aren't the most outright 'free' press but nonetheless. Government authorities have made a plea for indian filmmakers to remove all 'suicidal scenes' from movies. They state that such scenes encourage violent mimicry such as the tragic deaths of a mother and her two children (two survived). Hmmm, while you're at it, why not ban ALL violent scenes, all scenes that include rape, wife battery, child molest, gun fights, violence in general from every movie made, especially those high profile american ones. It makes sense that all negative actions within society stems from movies, those same movies which reflect and copy real life?
To attack and blame the movie industry for society ills is to merely look at the fire that had caused destruction, rather than the hand which had lit the match. Sure studies have shown that there are higher rates of aggression due to the video games, movies etc etc etc.......but where have that aggression come from? Are people merely dolls following some pixelated action?
Surely the government could do better than to make a plea- remove all suicidal scenes because they encourage people to commit suicide? What about concentrating on ensuring free national education and higher standards so people are well aware movies should be distinct with real life? How about focusing on raising employment and living standards to remove poverty, home disintegration and psychological trauma such as frustration and stress associated growing up with virtually nothing? Or implementing social schemes to encourage counseling, support, racial understanding.
Or is it too hard? So it's simpler...of course...to blame movies.

Niflheim represents both light and darkness, of the celebration and distaste of life, of musings and incoherent thought. It is an outlet for personified angst and pessimism with chuckfuls of laughter and smiles.
It is Taka's way of drawing out all the little disturbing thoughts giving rise to nightmares, a way to self reflect, a way to seek solace.
